As long as people have moved from one place to another, they have taken other animals and plants with them. The breadfruit tree and the red devil fish are common in Puerto Rico, where neither is native. Global spread of breadfruit began more than a thousand years ago with the purposeful efforts of ancient Polynesians. Large populations of the red devil in Puerto Rican reservoirs are the unintentional consequence of recent releases of aquarium fish.
